NEW DELHI: Covid warriors have worked the hardest during these tough times but over 300 of them are waiting for their promotions yet. The doctors working in dispensaries, hospitals, and administration in Delhi’s health department are still waiting for their much-deserved raise. These promotions are pending since December 2018. Some government officials have also stated that they have not received any incentives while the same has been to other doctors in several other states.

According to the departmental procedure, after the appointment of a doctor through the Union Public Service Commission the medical officers are promoted to senior medical officers and chief medical officers. These promotions take place after a serving period of four years and then another five years respectively. A Departmental Promotion Committee is formed which reviews the appraisal forms of the employees and passesthem on to the Lieutenant Governor.

However, the aggrieved doctors have stated that no such committee has been formed till now. When asked, Manisha Saxena, Principal Secretary, Health, stated that the department is working on the issue and doing the groundwork for the promotions of the doctors. She added that the promotion process will be over by the end of this month.

The doctors are awaiting their promotions that were further halted due to Covid 19 as they don’t want to miss out on the upcoming appraisal cycle in December 2022. The corona warriors state that they have given their best during the pandemic but they have to think about inflation and their financial matters also.
